Q: I'm quite petite and have for a while now, had cellulite on my upper thigh leading to my 'behind'. I have recently joined the gym. I am curious to know, will working out continuously minimize the appearance of my dimples?

A: The best approach to minimize the appearance of cellulite is by minimizing body fat while enhancing muscle firmness, especially in the legs. Therefore, what I am saying is that it the problem with cellulite (and being able to lose it is) is that it’s not just having too much fat; it’s a combination of too much fat and too little muscle.

So many women make the mistake of engaging in heavy cardio work with the thought that they will then lose the cellulite. However, because cellulite is the combination of too much fat, too little muscle this will not be effective. Therefore strength training along with the aerobic/cardio training is key to minimizing the appearance of cellulite.

Also, be aware that dieting in the absence of strength training could actually further the appearance of cellulite by causing muscle loss. Therefore, again, strength training is vital to build and maintain muscle mass.

Unfortunately there is no quick fix for cellulite. All the pills, creams and magic soap scourers will not aid cellulite reduction. Training is the most effective and perhaps only way to do this.
