Skin peels have become super-sophisticated, and are by far the most effective way of treating fine lines, hyper-pigmentation and lax, photo-aged skin. For the best results they should be performed regularly, but visiting salons is expensive. To allow you to get the best results without it costing a small fortune, Environ have devised a DIY peel, the Cool Home Peel Kit.

A course of topical Vitamin A should be done three weeks prior before using it (this is highly recommended, especially if you have a sensitive skin)

We haven’t had great success with hydroxy-acid peels – they’re either too strong or too weak, and the last one we used required a course of cortisone afterwards to calm our skin.

The Environ Alpha (α) Toner Forte is applied beforehand to lower the pH of your skin, so that the peel can be as effective as possible (this is where many chemical peels fail miserably).

The skin will tingle slightly, but it certainly isn’t unbearable. Then apply the peel with the brush that comes in the kit. Just a slight prickling sensation will subside within a minute or two. Leave the peel on for 15 minutes and then rinse it off easily. Your skin should be slightly pink, but nothing untoward, it soon subsides.

Two days after the peel, your skin should start to shed noticeably. Follow with another application a week later and the same Should happen. It’s important to keep your skin well-hydrated during this time; otherwise your make-up will not look great. Then skip a week and your skind should settle beautifully. It’s smoother, more even-toned and finer in texture.

We’d certainly recommend this peel. It’s an excellent treatment for skin that’s aged by the sun, unevenly pigmented, has fine lines and is rough.

Tip

Calm your skin after a chemical peel with a product that contains antioxidants. You’ll find that your skin settles more quickly and the results are even better.
