Everyone, at some point or another, needs some help to raise his or her self-esteem. Without self-esteem we can find ourselves feeling lonely and depressed – and that’s no way to live.
Here are some tips on how to raise your self-esteem so you always feel good about yourself and you can Make Your Move.
1. As a young person, you should be confident about your background. Whether you come from a poor background or from a well-off family, you have to be confident and proud of where you come from because it’s not a determining factor of where you will be in the future. 2. Everyone has potential. Just because you don’t know math or physics, doesn’t mean there’s nothing that you’re good at. There is always something you are good at. The bottom line is not to compare yourself to other people and to always keep trying to find the path that is right for you. 3. Be open-minded and don’t take whatever a person says to you too seriously. Know that you can be better, irrespective of what someone else says to you. One way to raise your self-esteem is to surround yourself with positive, loving people. If you spend time with people who are always negative and put you down, you’re going to believe what they have to say. But if you’re around people who uplift you, you can’t help but feel better about yourself. You’ll think more positively about yourself, too.
4. Don’t conform to peer pressure. Make sure you know where you are going so you don’t do things just because other people are doing it. So if your friends are smoking, drinking or having unprotected sex, it doesn’t mean you have to conform to it even if you know it’s wrong. You’d rather not have them as friends than doing something you’re not proud of in the future.
5. Take failure as a challenge. As we are growing up certain things happen to us that we are not proud of, maybe failing matric or getting bad grades. Don’t look at it as if ‘I can’t do it,’ rather take it as a challenge. A challenge is something you learn from so you can do better.
6. Many people spend a lot of time thinking about their inadequacies. How can you feel good about yourself if you think about the bad qualities you have? Everyone has negative traits, but it doesn’t do you any good to think only about those. You need to think about your positive qualities if you want to raise your self-esteem. Make a list of 20 things you like about yourself. Ask your friends and family members, too, if you need help. Look at the list every day, especially when you need a boost.
